Not everyone can be helped in an outpatient setting. For those who suffer from severe long-term fatigue, it is often impossible to fully recover with a combination of the different therapies I propose in this book, with occasional consultations in between. It is much more efficient for these people to be treated, guided and supported 24 hours a day, in an specialised healing environment with a multidisciplinary team and from a holistic vision.
Twelve years ago, this gave me the idea to set up a residential center for the treatment of energy problems, where patients could stay and receive intensive treatment. It took me ten years to find a suitable place, because it had to meet various conditions:
– It had to be in a climate that makes it possible to organise outdoor activities all year round (hiking, yoga, meditation, light exercises, cycling, swimming).
– The destination should not be too far from Belgium (after all, my patients are too tired to travel for a long time) and there should be no time difference with Belgium (adapting to a different time zone requires a lot of time and energy).
– The place had to be “healthy”: no air or soil pollution, no environmental noise, as little electro smog as possible and so on. In other words, I was looking for a place in the middle of nature, an oasis of peace, far from busy tourist activities, industry or industrial agriculture and traffic.
• The location of the site itself should also be energetically balanced: ideally near mountains and the sea, free from geopathic disturbances under the surface, and if possible on a ley line (ley lines are energy paths that the earth’s crust).
After a ten-year search I discovered Marnes in the south of Spain, an unsightly hamlet in the mountains on the Costa Blanca, with the sea within reach. There are only a handful of houses in Marnes. There is no electrical network (everyone produces their own electricity using solar panels, batteries and an emergency generator). There is also no municipal water supply (all residents have their own water source or well). Your smartphone does not work in most places. There is no passing traffic for the simple reason that the road leads to a dead end. You will only find nature in its most pristine form. A 2014 WHO report shows that air quality on the Costa Blanca is the purest in all of Europe. Obviously there is no industry or industrial agriculture. Marnes also has a ley line, which made it the perfect place for my project.
Marnes already had a resort – the only one in the entire region – that was used as a center for people who wanted to detox or lose weight for a few days or more. I was lucky and this resort was for sale in 2018. The basis for my residential center for people with energy problems was already there. I converted this resort into a health clinic and that’s how “Marnes” was born.
Our mission and working method
Marnes’s mission is individual treatment, completely customized and based on a holistic vision. Before patients start the treatment in Marnes, an extensive intake procedure takes place in Belgium (case history, physical examination, the necessary laboratory analyses), with the aim of drawing up an individual treatment program on the basis of these results. This means: an individually adapted nutritional plan, supplements, medication with intravenous therapy if necessary, individual coaching, individual body-oriented therapy, personal training and so on.
In addition to their own individual trajectory, the patient is given the opportunity to participate in organized and guided group activities (walking, yoga, meditation, sports, cooking lessons in function of the anti-toxic eating plan, etc.) and we organize a number of group therapies with and for people who share the same problem.
Marnes’s team consists of doctors, nurses, osteopaths, personal coaches, personal trainers and various therapists.
The program is offered in blocks of two weeks. In many cases it is possible to form a good therapeutic basis in two weeks. We need four or more weeks for specific problems. After the residential stay, an opportunity is offered for outpatient follow-up treatment and further counseling at home.
Living room feeling
Although Marnes is a medical resort, we have taken care to preserve the living room feeling as much as possible, so that people can feel at home and relax as much as possible in this oasis of peace. There is a calm, friendly atmosphere; there is no pressure or stress here (not even about the program that needs to be followed). We’ll examine with the patient what is desirable, what is possible and what the patient feels most comfortable with. The patient comes first, the program second.
In principle, Marnes can treat any kind of fatigue: whether you have been diagnosed with CFS, fibromyalgia or burnout; whether you are exhausted as a result of chemotherapy or other treatments for cancer, an autoimmune disease or an exhaustion depression, you are welcome with your problem and we start from the principle of acceptance (you do not have to demonstrate to us or with records that you are tired).
Organic farming project and community
An organic agricultural project is also linked to Marnes. Agricultural lands near the resort were purchased (land on which agriculture has not been practiced for the past fifty to one hundred years) with the aim of creating a community of people who wish to do organic farming (permaculture) together. The intention is that these people are not only self-sufficient in their own needs, but can also provide the resort with organic, healthy food. At this time (September 2019) the community is starting to take shape. People who are attracted to this project and who would like to help shape it as a volunteer (for a while or permanently), can contact us via the contact form below.
